The Bubble: A Reflection on Personal Boundaries

I want you to extend your arms out to the side of your body.
Sit there for a moment and take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
This cannot be rushed.
Now keep your arms extended. Do not let them drop.
I want you to slowly move them in a circular motion, forming a symmetrical shape around you, almost like a sphere.
Move your arms around as if you are outlining a bubble.
That space right there—keep moving around it.
That space is your bubble.
You have to be very careful about what comes into that space.
This is your protective bubble. It’s similar to your aura, but it extends farther out.
Your aura sits closer to your body.
Your bubble is arm’s length out.
Whatever you have in that bubble is going to affect your life.
It’s going to affect what comes in and what goes out of your world.
The world itself is symmetrical and round, so you have to think of it this way.
What do you have in your bubble?
Do you have your phone in your hand inside that bubble?
Are you scrolling in that bubble?
Are you drinking in that bubble?
Are you thinking in that bubble?
What are you doing in that bubble?
What’s in it?
Did you just text someone who wastes your time?
Did you respond to them?
Did you let them into your bubble?
Because if your phone is in your hand and you’re texting someone you already know is no good, their energy enters your bubble.
Anything within that arm’s-length space gets inside.
Whatever you put in that bubble is what you draw back in.
So if you have negative things in your bubble, you’re going to pull in negative energy.
Then you’ll wonder why things aren’t going the way you want them to go in your life.
It’s because of what’s in your bubble.
If you have positive things in your bubble—
you’re going for walks,
you’re meditating,
you’re being productive,
you’re not having too many glasses of wine in the bubble,
even though I’m sipping wine as I speak—
If you bring positive things into the bubble, you’re going to receive positive things.
You’re going to emit positive energy, and that energy draws positive things back to you.
When the bubble is clear, when you put your worries to the side,
when you leave behind the things trying to control your mind, body, and soul,
when you clear out that negative energy—
You’ll feel lighter.
You’ll feel air.
You’ll be able to breathe better.
But you also have to take something else into consideration.
What about the other bubbles around you?
Who are the bubbles near you?
Bubbles attract bubbles.
If you put two bubbles in the same Petri dish, they move toward each other.
And when bubbles come together, you absorb what’s inside the other one.
Everything they have in their bubble.
You might not see it.
You might not notice it.
But trust and believe, whatever energy they’re carrying wants to attach to yours.
Now you’re carrying your bubble, and sometimes you’re carrying the weight of someone else’s too.
Think about a mother.
She has her own bubble, and she also carries the bubble of her children.
Depending on the energy in her bubble, that’s what becomes of them.
We have to be careful about what we keep in our bubble.
And we have to be careful about who we allow near it.
Sometimes you can’t control who’s around your bubble.
At work, for example, you may have a disgruntled coworker.
If you’re not careful, you start absorbing their bubble.
That’s when you create distance.
Only interact if you must.
Otherwise, go the opposite direction.
Protect your peace.
Protect your bubble.
So all day, every day, when you doubt yourself,
when you’re not sure if you’re on the right path,
you have to ask yourself in that moment:
**Who and what is in my bubble?**
Boundaries are easy to talk about.
They’re harder to see clearly.
Especially when you’re standing inside them.
If you want to understand what’s shaping your bubble, what’s attached to it, and what needs to be released, sometimes an outside perspective is the cleanest way to see it.
Clarity changes everything.
When you’re ready to look at your bubble from the outside, I’m here.
