How to Awaken Your Inner High Priestess

A serene High Priestess figure seated between stone pillars, wearing flowing blue robes and a crescent moon crown, holding a sacred scroll, symbolizing intuition, wisdom, and divine feminine power.

The High Priestess is one of the most powerful and mystical archetypes in tarot. She represents wisdom, intuition, emotional intelligence, boundaries, spiritual maturity, and divine femininity. She is the bridge between the spiritual realm and the physical world.

It is difficult to take advantage of the High Priestess. People either respect and admire her, or they are blinded by her power and godlike presence. Rarely is there an in-between.

Like the card itself, she stands between two pillars, Boaz (“strength”) and Jachin (“established”). You either see her as light, or you see her as darkness. In truth, she is neither. She is balanced.

There is a bittersweet quality to her, much like the pomegranate that rests upon the veil behind her. Like this sacred, third-eye-opening fruit, if you were to crack her open, you would find seeds of hidden truths, untapped potential, inner mysteries, and an intuition that grows from the inside out.

So how do you tap into your inner High Priestess? How do you own her without regret?

You must first come to the realization that before you stand in your High Priestess aura, you may be adored or hated for your wisdom and strength.

People either bathe in your sun, or bake in it without their glasses or sunscreen.

The High Priestess does not bow down to anyone. She does not sacrifice her pride and dignity to fit in with the masses. She blazes trails wherever she goes, and she lets no one stand in her way. She does not care who likes her or whose feelings she has hurt with truth.

She remains balanced under pressure. Head up, chest out, poised and graceful. She knows her purpose and trusts her intentions, even in flawed moments.

So how do you awaken the High Priestess?

You must first seek wisdom and knowledge. No matter what you plan to do in life, become the master of it. Learn all you can.

As well, learn an array of things, not only what you choose to master. This makes you worldly. Be fluent in people, culture, language, history, numbers, and more.

Mastery is ever-evolving. You can never know too much, and at the same time, you should never stay stuck on one idea or ideology. If you do not have a skill, learn one or find your master. If you do have a skill, take it up a notch. Whether you go to school, take an online course, connect with a mentor, or are self-taught, expand your wisdom.

An unexpected book or piece of writing can sharpen your presence and deepen the way you engage with others. The High Priestess knows the power of knowledge and wisdom, and her ever-expanding mind becomes one of her greatest weapons.

Next, to become the High Priestess, you must learn to trust your intuition and never second-guess it.

The High Priestess knows that her wisdom is her guiding light, and she has a close relationship with it. It is rare that she ever doubts it. She knows her intuition is not only her superpower, but also her guardian and driving force.

She leans on her intuition whenever in doubt. It is her trusty steed, and she does not allow anyone to make her second-guess it.

When the red flags go off, she listens. She knows they do not go off for no reason. She knows the stomach is the second brain, so when it does not feel right, she trusts her gut. She is in tune with her body and energies, and she knows energy does not lie.

She does not take things as coincidence. She knows everything is connected. What happens carries meaning. Life teaches through intuition, and she listens.

The High Priestess also has a high level of emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to feel deeply without losing yourself.

The High Priestess reads the room without effort. She feels intentions before words are spoken. She remains calm under pressure. She separates emotion from intuition and responds with precision instead of reaction. She understands what others try to hide and sees beneath the surface without needing proof.

When disrespected, she does not explode. She pauses. She discerns. She knows what the moment requires and acts accordingly.

She holds space for others without drowning in their emotions. She knows when to listen, when to comfort, and when to detach. She guards her time and emotional energy like a fortress, knowing exactly who to let into her chambers and who to keep out.

This is emotional intelligence. This is the High Priestess.

That leads us to boundaries.

This is where the High Priestess is often misunderstood. When she sets boundaries, she can easily look like the villain. She stands on her boundaries and does not let anyone cross them. She also respects the boundaries of others. When she sets a boundary, she honors it.

If someone disrespects her or calls her out of her name, that is it. It is over. There is no forgiveness, no sympathy, no explanation. The boundary was clearly set.

In rare instances, she may warn someone once. If the behavior continues, she cuts them off without hesitation.

If her moral compass is high, she may decide she will never be intimate with a married man or someone in a relationship. She lives by that boundary. She does not cross it, and she does not allow anyone to pressure or coerce her into abandoning it. Because of this, she is often labeled difficult, stubborn, or worse.

Her boundaries are set high. She stands in her truth. If a boundary is crossed, that is the end of a connection. She never looks back. Not because she is better than others, but because she understands the cost of settling for less.

Her boundaries, next to her intuition, are among her greatest defenses. She lives by the sword and will die by it.

Another way of awakening the High Priestess is through spiritual maturity.

She is deeply tapped into her spiritual side, often beyond organized religion. She has faith in something, but she also has faith in the universe, the cosmos, and a higher power. She is spiritually aware and well seasoned.

She has studied, lived, and mingled with others along her spiritual path, and she honors it. Her spiritual maturity aligns her boundaries. Because of this, she is often seen as magical. Some may call her a witch, although she is not. She is simply deeply spiritually mature, connected to a higher power in a way uniquely her own.

She respects other people’s religious, cultural, and spiritual beliefs and does not force her values on anyone. She can honor many belief systems without believing hers is superior. That is her maturity.

To become the High Priestess, you must honor your own spirit, as well as the spirit of others. It is not my way or the highway. Each of us has the right to honor our connection to the universe in our own way.

Lastly, to awaken your High Priestess, you must embody divine femininity.

Her power may rival that of a man. Some may call her alpha. Still, she embraces her femininity. She is feminine. She is soft. She embraces her sexual prowl. She is strong within and soft outwardly.

In nurturing relationships, she allows the man to stand in his strength while she embodies the healer. She remains in her feminine energy and aligns only with those who allow her to stay there. If she must suppress her softness or force her strength to survive a connection, she walks away.

She is well poised. She takes care of herself, not to be the most beautiful, but because she knows beauty begins within. She embraces her womanhood, her softness, her nurturing nature. There is something divine about the way she carries it.

Even if her beauty is not striking, her aura is. She knows when to bring out her strength and when to tuck it inward so she can radiate kindness, softness, and care, not only as a mother to her children, but to others as well. Her femininity, like her spirituality, feels magical.

So how do we awaken the High Priestess?

We embrace our inner queen. We do not suppress her. We keep her sharp and wise. We trust and honor our intuition. We cultivate emotional intelligence within ourselves.

We set boundaries. We honor our moral compass. We mature spiritually. We respect the spiritual paths of others. We embody divine femininity in all its depth and power, choosing only those who allow us to honor our inner and outer beauty.

The High Priestess lives within all of us, women and men alike. Softness is not weakness. We are scholars. We are intuitive beings. We are spiritual teachers.

Like the High Priestess seated between her pillars, she does not reveal all of herself. Like the scroll she holds, only part of the truth is visible. Much of who she is remains hidden, yet deeply felt. She does not hand everyone the map to her heart, her secrets, or her desires.

These are sacred.

Mystique is her power.

She is mysterious.

She is spiritual.

She is knowing.

A Note on Guidance

Many people come to me asking about the future.

But the women who recognize themselves in this piece often come to me for something deeper.

They come when they are standing at a crossroads.

When their intuition is loud, but the noise around them is louder.

When they don’t need to be told what will happen, but want clarity on how to walk their path without betraying themselves.

High Priestess women don’t seek reassurance.

They seek alignment.

They come for guidance, perspective, and spiritual calibration.

To make sure they are still standing in their truth.

Still honoring their boundaries.

Still moving forward with integrity, power, and self-trust.

Sometimes that includes a glimpse of what’s ahead.

Other times, it’s about understanding what is being revealed right now.

This work isn’t about predicting your life.

It’s about helping you stay awake inside it.

And when one High Priestess seeks counsel from another, it’s not weakness.

It’s wisdom.

If this piece spoke to you, you already know why you’re here.
